Annotating a global dataset with a global team
National Geographic Society (NGS) developed a drop camera system for deep sea exploration and research, allowing them to collect vast amounts of video in places that are difficult to reach. Both their data and team of experts span the globe, with personnel in Hawaii, the continental US, and the UK. Needing a software solution for video review and collaborative annotation, they turned to Tator, developed by CVision AI.
National Geographic was an early adopter of Tator, and their invaluable feedback has guided development of its user experience and features. Users can annotate individual organisms with localizations and activities with video states. In addition, Tator's RESTful application programming interface allowed NGS to create geographic visualizations of all their annotations in a separate tool.
